The latest treatment for Peyronie’s disease

Peyronie’s plaque is an unknown disease that causes deviation and curvature of the penis and erectile dysfunction. For years, scientists have been investigating different treatment methods for treating penile plaque, and every year a new treatment is tested for this disease. Earlier in an article, we have talked about different methods of treating this disease. In the current article, we are trying to examine the newest method of treating this disease (Xiaflex Ampoule), which was recently approved.

Xiaflex

Xiaflex (collagenase clostridium histolyticum) is made from a mixture of proteins extracted from certain bacteria called clostridia. This medication is available in the form of injectable ampoules. The sale of this medicine is allowed only through a pharmacy and its preparation is allowed only with a doctor’s prescription. And due to its newness, at the time of publication of this article, this medication is not yet available in most pharmacies in Iran. In 2018, this drug was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration in the treatment of Peyronie’s plaque.

If you have allergy to Clostridium histolyticum collagenase medicine, you should not use this medicine. Xiaflex should not be used to treat Peyronie’s disease if you have plaque on the urethra.

In these cases, consult a urologist to make sure that taking Xiaflex medicine is not dangerous for you:

• a bleeding or blood clotting disorder, such as hemophilia;

• If you experience any pain or swelling in the penis after the first injection, you should not have any sexual activity for at least 2 weeks after your second injection.

Xiaflex side effects

Usually, Xiaflex medicine does not cause serious complications, but if you have symptoms of allergy and sensitivity to Xiaflex medicine, such as: skin rash or hives (with or without fever or joint pain); difficulty in breathing; If you see swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, be sure to call the emergency room.
